The Miami Dolphins were on bye in Week 12, coming off their big Week 11 win over the Washington Commanders. While they didn't play any game over the weekend, the Dolphins did get some good news coming out of their bye.
Darren Waller, who's only played four games for the Dolphins this season after starting the year out, and then landing on Injured Reserve later, is closing in on a return.
As Underdog NFL shares on Twitter/X, the Dolphins will open the practice window for Waller to come off IR on Wednesday. The Dolphins' veteran tight end will now have 21 days to be activated to the Dolphins' active roster.
Dolphins open Darren Waller's practice window
This injury update on Waller is some great news coming out of the bye week. Waller has a chance to return in Week 13 against the New Orleans Saints.
At 4-7, the Dolphins are still in the playoff hunt, though they need a bit of help to get there. But, even with a playoff berth potentially out of reach, getting Waller for the final weeks of the season will be a positive.
The 33-year-old tight end has been targeted 12 times this season across four games, hauling in 10 receptions for 117 yards and four touchdowns.

Waller was a huge red-zone weapon for Tua Tagovailoa, and his return should help round out the Dolphins' offense.
De'Von Achane, Jaylen Waddle, and Waller make up a solid core on offense. While Waller's future is uncertain beyond 2025, he's shown enough promise that Miami has reason to bring him back if he can stay healthy for another year.
Waller's career has been a fascinating one, and a resurgence after a brief one-year retirement would be par for the course for the polarizing tight end.
He's slated to have his practice window opened ahead of Week 13, and he could wind up coming back for the final six weeks of the season. Waller is closing in on a return to the Dolphins lineup, a much-welcomed late-season addition for the offense.
