New Dolphins report shuts down prior news of interest in John Harbaugh image

The Miami Dolphins have a head coaching issue to resolve asap. Mike McDaniel still has a job, but the Dolphins haven't officially committed to him as their coach for 2026.

And when a report from NFL insider Josina Anderson came out that Miami reached out to recently fired Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, there was some smoke of a potential head coaching change this offseason for Miami.

However, a new report from Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, who's very knowledgeable about the Dolphins, revealed that Miami hasn't contacted Harbaugh in any way this offseason, shutting down the prior report from Anderson.

Dolphins get conflicting John Harbaugh reports

"The Dolphins have not reached out to, or engaged with John Harbaugh in any way, according to 3  people with direct knowledge," Jackson reports. "I can't predict the future, but that's where we stand at this time."

This report from Jackson indicates that the Dolphins have not made contact with Harbaugh in any way, and seemingly, have McDaniel still set as the coach for next year.

But, while Jackson shuts down the reporting from Anderson that the two sides have been in contact, he isn't shutting down the chance that they could meet in the future.

For now, there's been no contact. But things could change in the coming days and weeks, depending on how fast Harbaugh's market develops.

Anderson previously reported that the Dolphins and Harbaugh "have been in touch." But this report from Jackson suggests the opposite, in that neither side has been in contact with the other at this point.

It's an interesting situation, especially with McDaniel's status as head coach being incredibly murky at the moment.

Showing interest in McDaniel's potential replacement while he still holds a job is an awkward situation for everyone involved, and Miami might not want to move on from McDaniel until it gets confirmation from Harbaugh that he's coming to Miami.

But that might not come to pass, especially with the New York Giants showing a lot of interest in the longtime Ravens head coach.

This will be one of the more fascinating team-to-head coach parings to monitor this offseason, as Harbaugh to Miami has a chance, according to one insider, but no traction yet, according to another.
