The Miami Dolphins are entering the 2026 offseason with a lot of problems to address, from the coaching staff to the front office, and some major player personnel decisions.
Tua Tagovailoa's future in Miami will take center stage, but there is another veteran who's making tens of millions who could have his future changed this offseason.
Tyreek Hill, with an uncertain future in Miami, could be on the move. And ESPN's Aaron Schatz predicts as such, with Hill's departure from Miami signaling the end of an era for the Dolphins.
Dolphins predicted to end an era with Tyreek Hill decision
"The Dolphins will cut Hill," Schatz predicts. "He had already declined last season and will be 32 in 2026. Cutting Hill with a post-June 1 designation would save the Dolphins $36 million on the cap and is a much easier decision than figuring out what to do with Tagovailoa's huge contract."
There are a lot of difficult decisions coming for the Dolphins over the next year or so. Mike McDaniel and the new general manager are two of the biggest, with Tagovailoa and Hill the most important roster moves to come.
But when it comes to the veteran quarterback, Miami is in a much more difficult spot than with Hill. Tagovailoa's contract isn't easy to get out of, which isn't the case for Hill.

As Schatz notes, if the Dolphins cut Hill with a post June 1 designation, they will save $36 million in cap space. With his declining skill set in recent years and a transition period coming up, moving on from Hill makes the most sense.
Ideally, trading him for any return would be preferred. But no team is willing to trade valuable assets for Hill, who might not be at full strength in 2026.
Instead, the Dolphins' best bet is to release Hill, save a lot of cap space, and move forward. It's a move that will signal the end of an era in Miami, but it's a move that needs to happen for the Dolphins to move forward as a franchise.
