The success of the Miami Dolphins’ 2025 season hinges on one player: Tua Tagovailoa.
The last two seasons for Tagovailoa and the Dolphins have been a mixed bag. After a Pro Bowl campaign that helped lead Miami to the playoffs for a second straight year, expectations were high. But the 2024 season unraveled quickly — the Dolphins lost six of their first eight games, and Tagovailoa went down with another concussion after just two starts. He missed six games, and Miami missed the playoffs.
Now, entering this season, what once seemed like a sure thing at quarterback is now a major question mark for both Tagovailoa and the franchise.
“It’s likely Tua won’t get better as a QB,” Fox Sports’ Henry McKenna wrote. “He’ll simply stay at this plateau. At this juncture, the Dolphins are approaching a boiling point.”

Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon believes things could spiral even further. He predicted that if Tagovailoa suffers another major injury, it could not only end his career but also push Miami into full rebuild mode.
“Hate even saying it because nobody wants to see it, but another major injury for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa would likely ruin his career and send the Dolphins into a rebuild,” Gagnon wrote.

As Gagnon noted, that would be a nightmare scenario for Miami.
Tagovailoa suffered not only a concussion last season, but also missed the final two games with a hip injury, as the Dolphins split those outings 1-1.
The concussion alone raised speculation that Tagovailoa might consider retirement. He did return after missing four games, but how many more hits he can sustain before long-term consequences pile up is anyone’s guess.
Miami is hoping that prediction remains just that — and that Tagovailoa can stay healthy and lead the Dolphins back to contention in 2025.
