The Miami Dolphins are 1-6 and looking to get back into the win column in Week 8 against a tough Atlanta Falcons team. But they will have to face the Falcons without one of their best receivers.

Darren Waller went on the injured list with a pectoral injury after Week 7 and is going to miss at least the next four weeks. With this injury happening around the middle of the year, there was concern about how much time Waller would miss.

However, as Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald shared, head coach Mike McDaniel revealed an encouraging update on Waller's status for the remainder of the season. While he's out for a while, his return to the NFL isn't over just yet.

Dolphins' Darren Waller not expected to miss the rest of the season

"Waller's injury not season-ending, per McDaniel," Jackson reports. "He's out at least 4 games per IR rules (pectoral)."

Waller was acquired shortly after trading Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers as part of the Jalen Rams ey and Minkah Fitzpatrick blockbuster trade.

Since coming to Miami, he's missed some time to begin the year, but in the four weeks of play, he's been a great weapon for Tua Tagovailoa and the offense.

In his first game since 2023, Waller caught three of his four targets for 27 yards and two touchdowns. His second week back in the starting lineup saw Waller reach 78 yards on five receptions, adding another touchdown to his total.

In Week 6, Waller hauled in two more receptions for 12 yards, adding a fourth touchdown to his season total. He suited up for the Dolphins' Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns, but amid the 31-6 blowout, Waller didn't record any stats before getting injured.

But, in his limited action for the Dolphins this season, Waller has been an incredible receiving threat for Tagovailoa. With Tyreek Hill out for the season, Waller's presence was huge for the passing offense.

In four games, Waller tallied 10 receptions for 117 yards and four touchdowns. And while he's now slated to miss a lot of time, his pectoral injury isn't season-ending, and the Dolphins' tight end who came out of retirement is expected back later this season.
