The Miami Dolphins got a late start to the offseason, as they fired Mike McDaniel from his head coaching job a few days after most other coaches were fired.
A few days after he was let go, the Dolphins, aided by Troy Aikman, officially hired Green Bay Packers executive Jon-Eric Sullivan to be their new general manager.
That hire officially opened the door for head coaching candidates to come in, and according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the first coach they've reached out to is, unsurprisingly, John Harbaugh.
Dolphins reach out to John Harbaugh about HC gig
"On the day the Dolphins finalized an agreement with GM Jon-Eric Sullivan," Schefter reports, "they finally reached out to John Harbaugh and let it be known that they, too, are interested in him, per sources. So add Miami to the list of teams that would like to meet with Harbaugh."
Miami is officially kicking off its head coaching search with one of the more obvious candidates for the job in Harbaugh.
His connection with owner Steve Ross is a significant one, and while Chad Alexander, who has a link to Harbaugh, wasn't hired as the general manager, the former Baltimore Ravens head coach is still a strong candidate for the Miami job.

While the Dolphins begin their search by reaching out to Harbaugh, the expected top choice, it's far from a guarantee that he comes to Miami.
The New York Giants are a strong suitor for Harbaugh, as are the Cleveland Browns, and some other teams cannot be ruled out just yet.
Dolphins executives will have some solid options at head coach this offseason outside of Harbaugh, with Kevin Stefanski and potentially even Matt LaFleur as the next best choices.
But, for now, Harbaugh is the top candidate for the job in Miami, as the Dolphins are starting their head coaching search with the coach who has the strongest link to the Dolphins at the moment.
