The Miami Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel a few days after the season ended, and are looking to hire their head coach of the future. Jon-Eric Sullivan is the new general manager, and along with Troy Aikman's consultation, they'll search for a new coach.
While John Harbaugh, Kevin Stefanski, and Robert Saleh are among the most interesting names this offseason for teams searching for a new head coach, the most interesting and fun hire the Dolphins could make is with a Los Angeles Rams coach.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Dolphins requested to interview said coach, who is the grandson of legendary head coach Don Shula, Chris Shula, for their head coach opening.
Dolphins request to interview grandson of Don Shula, Chris Shula, for HC job
"Here's a fun one: The Dolphins have requested an interview with Rams DC Chris Shula for their head coaching job, per source," Pelissero reports.
This report from Pelissero is, as he states, a fun one. Hiring Shula would make for a fun anecdote, with a Shula back in charge in Miami.
Shula isn't a gimmick interview for the Dolphins either, as the Rams' defensive coordinator is a legitimate head coaching candidate.
He's helped turn the Rams' defense around after a brutal outlook in the absence of Aaron Donald following his retirement.
While the Rams defense might not hold the same fear that the Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, or Philadelphia Eagles do, they're still one of the better units in the NFL. Shula is getting head coaching buzz, and has for some time now.

With the Rams set to play the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card round, the Dolphins will have to wait until next week to interview Shula, regardless of whether the Rams win or not.
If they lose to the Panthers, the Dolphins could hire Shula as soon as possible. But with Harbaugh, Stefanski, and many other worthy candidates, the Dolphins have an extensive search still ahead of them.
The Dolphins are requesting to interview Shula, the Rams' defensive coordinator, this offseason for their head coach opening. It's too early to tell how much of a chance he has for the job, but if nothing else, it's a fun hypothetical connection for Miami.
