The Miami Dolphins had an open general manager spot and were looking around the league to make a hire to help get them out of the Tua Tagovailoa contract situation.
But once John Harbaugh was fired, there was a lot of intrigue about a potential hiring of GM candidate Chad Alexander, who has ties with Harbaugh and might've been a huge help in bringing the longtime Baltimore Ravens coach to Miami.
However, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Dolphins are not hiring Alexander to be their new general manager. Instead, they're going with Green Bay Packers exec Jon-Eric Sullivan.
This decision is bad news for the Dolphins' odds of hiring Harbaugh.

Dolphins GM hire is bad news for John Harbaugh's odds
"The Dolphins are working to hire Jon-Eric Sullivan as their general manager, sources tell me and @RapSheet," Pelissero reports.
Sullivan had been with the Packers since 2003, and before this hiring, was their Vice President of Player Personnel. He was one of the hotter names on the general manager circuit and is now coming to Miami.
It's an exciting hire for the Dolphins, getting someone so well respected across the NFL. But with Sullivan now a big part of the head coaching search, the Dolphins might not be a top landing spot for Harbaugh.
Alexander coming to Miami might've indicated a better chance of bringing Harbaugh to Miami. While they could still land the former Ravens coach, those odds don't look as good as they might've with Alexander as the general manager.
There are some other intriguing names available, like Kevin Stefanski, Klint Kubiak, Vance Joseph and especially Jeff Hafley of the Packers.
The Dolphins are heading into a transition period as they look to move on from Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and reset for a year or two. With Sullivan now the architect for such a future, the Dolphins are gearing up for some big change in the coming months.
