The Miami Dolphins have reportedly landed on their next general manager.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Dolphins are hiring Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel, Jon-Eric Sullivan, who will now be tasked with finding the team's next head coach.
Despite surviving Black Monday and the days that followed, the Dolphins ultimately decided to cut ties with Mike McDaniel, which was the right move.
With that general manager hiring, five names immediately land on the list of possible head-coach candidates for the Dolphins.
Pelissero named four of them in ex-Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich and former Packers linebackers coach and run game coordinator Anthony Campanile, who is currently serving as the Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive coordinator.
Hafley is already receiving interest from multiple teams and is widely considered one of the hottest names on the head-coaching market this offseason.
Another name we'd throw in the ring is Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.
LaFleur is still employed by the Packers, but if Green Bay gets bounced in the first round of the playoffs, it's not crazy to think he could get fired after seven seasons.
This general manager hiring may be bad news for the Dolphins' chances of landing former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, who has no known connection with Sullivan.
The Dolphins did interview a candidate with a Harbaugh connection, Los Angeles Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander, but he obviously did not get the job.
There haven't been any reports of the Dolphins interviewing head coach candidates yet, but we would assume that will begin in earnest now that the general manager is locked in.
