The Miami Dolphins are now in the market for a new head coach.
According to several reports, the Dolphins are firing head coach Mike McDaniel after four seasons with the team.
It was initially believed McDaniel might be safe after he survived Black Monday and the days that followed, but clearly that was not the case.
One name that is almost certainly going to come up in talks about McDaniel's replacement is former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
After all, the Dolphins need some experience and stability at the position as the team prepares for what could be a lengthy rebuild. Harbaugh would be just what the doctor ordered for Miami.
There have been differing reports about the Dolphins already reaching out to the Super Bowl-winning head coach.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have not been in contact with Harbaugh yet, but NFL insider Josina Anderson reports they have been.
Even if the Dolphins haven't been in contact with Harbaugh yet, that doesn't mean they won't be. And, considering the high level of interest Harbaugh is garnering, Miami is likely to be among his many suitors.
The 33rd Team's Ari Meirov points out that the Dolphins could help their caus e via their general manager search if they are interested in Harbaugh.
Meirov notes that Los Angeles Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander, who currently works with Jim Harbaugh, is among the Dolphins' finalists for the vacant general manager job.
Alexander was with the Ravens from 1999-2019, a span of time that overlapped with Harbaugh's tenure in Baltimore. It's conceivable to think that Alexander's candidacy could help the Dolphins land Harbaugh.
The biggest problem for the Dolphins in landing Harbaugh is that there's going to be a ton of competition, and the stiffest of the group appears to be the New York Giants.
But the Dolphins can offer Harbaugh two things the Giants can't: a blank slate and the ability to work with a general manager he knows.
