The Miami Dolphins ended the 2025 NFL season with a lot of issues to resolve, including finding a new general manager in the offseason.
But one thing seemed more likely than ever: Mike McDaniel would return as the team's head coach. There was no certainty, but the Dolphins looked to be ready to keep McDaniel in Miami for at least one more year.
However, a new report from NFL insider Josina Anderson revealed that the Dolphins could ditch McDaniel for recently fired Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
Dolphins could ditch McDaniel for Harbaugh
"I'm told the Dolphins have been in touch on John Harbaugh, per league sources," Anderson reports, "It's my understanding Todd Monken could have a path to still be Harbaugh's OC (withstanding other opportunities), if Monken departs Baltimore with the arrival of the Ravens' new head coach."
This would be a stunning turn of events for the Dolphins, as they could decide to ditch McDaniel thanks to the Ravens' firing Harbaugh. He's the hottest name on the coaching carousel this offseason, with plenty of teams interested.
The New York Giants are showing significant interest, and every other team with a head coach opening, including the division rival Cleveland Browns, is showing interest in Harbaugh.
Miami wasn't in the coaching search this offseason, with McDaniel reportedly coming back. But once Harbaugh was fired, Miami has shown an interest in moving on from McDaniel to bring in Harbaugh.

There is one major issue that could take the Dolphins out of the race for Harbaugh, and it's thanks to Tua Tagovailoa. The uncertainty at quarterback might have the former Ravens coach crossing the Dolphins off on his list of possible landing spots.
With so many teams vying for his services, taking the Dolphins, with their team being more than a year away from competing, off his list makes some sense for the veteran coach.
While it might not be a likely landing spot, the Dolphins showing interest in Harbaugh and Todd Monken as well is something to monitor. McDaniel might be out of a job if they can guarantee they hire Harbaugh.
The Giants are likely the favorites for Harbaugh, but the Dolphins shouldn't be counted out based on this report from Anderson as a destination for the top coach on the market this offseason.
