The Dolphins are one of the most intriguing teams to watch as the season progresses. This is largely due to the growing belief that they may offload some veteran players before kickoff. One surprising name that’s been floated as a potential cut is Tyreek Hill.
“For the record, Tyreek Hill makes much more sense as a trade option. Not only would a player of his caliber reel in solid value in a trade, but the Miami Dolphins would save over $20 million more trading him rather than releasing him,” Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante wrote.
The speculation stems primarily from Hill’s massive salary cap hit. Despite that, he's still widely considered one of the top receivers in the league. NFL executives and scouts recently ranked him No. 3 on the current wide receiver list.
“Even if he's lost a half-step, he's still more explosive than everyone — power with raw speed. I do think defenses have made some adjustments to that [Miami] offense, letting him run around with window dressing and limiting big plays,” an AFC scout said.
Hill seems determined to prove his worth to the Dolphins, should they decide to keep him.
“Every day I’m trying to prove myself as one of those guys this team can depend on in crucial moments. . . . It was tough. Emotions were high then. At the end of the day, I’m just looking to move forward from that. Hoping that I can prove myself and prove to my teammates that I’m still one of those ones,” Hill said.

However, following Mike Williams’ retirement on Thursday, Hill could possibly be heading to Los Angeles.
“There are no rumors that Los Angeles would want Hill on their team or that they have reached out. The announcement regarding the Williams' decision is fresh. The Chargers, however, do make sense for Hill should the Dolphins be called. They have a lot of cap space, a reason why Jalen Ramsey was often a name mentioned, and a clear need,” Phin Phanatic’s Brian Miller wrote.
There’s no doubt the Chargers would welcome the opportunity to add Hill to their roster. A Justin Herbert–Tyreek Hill connection could be one of the most dangerous duos in the NFL—and might just give the Chiefs something to worry about in the AFC West.
