Why 'Thiccer Kicker' Harrison Mevis is kicking for Rams and not Joshua Karty image

The Los Angeles Rams have a new kicker on Sunday.

He's a cult hero, Harrison Mevis, known as the Thiccer Kicker.

And he takes over for Joshua Karty right about at the midway point of the season.

Why is Harrison Mevis kicking for the Rams and not Joshua Karty?

The Rams felt they had no choice but to replace Karty.

This season so far, Karty has missed eight kicks. He's 10-for-15 on field goals and 23-for-26 on extra points.

A few of those have been blocked, but either way, that's too many misses. The Rams felt they had to try something different.

Why is Harrison Mevis the 'Thiccer Kicker'?

Mevis earned the nickname for his sturdy frame.

Listed at 5-foot-11 and 236 pounds at Mizzou, Mevis once made a 61-yard field goal for the Tigers, an SEC record.

Mevis made 86 field goals in his college career.

His official listing in the UFL raised up to 6-feet, 242 pounds.

Mevis finished the 2025 spring season in the UFL, where he went 20-for-21 on field goals for the Birmingham Stallions. His longest make was from 54 yards out.

This will be his first chance to kick in the NFL regular season.
