The Los Angeles Rams are in the midst of one of the best seasons in franchise history. They currently hold the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff picture, and Matthew Stafford is the leader in the clubhouse for the 2025 NFL MVP award, throwing 35 touchdowns and just four interceptions through 14 weeks. And while the Rams are focused on winning their second Super Bowl in four years, they may also want to pay attention to recent developments in Cincinnati.
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow spoke with the media on Wednesday, and the comments he made have caught the attention of everyone around the NFL.
"If I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing this," Burrow said via Charlie Clifford. "I have been through a lot. If it's not fun, then what am I doing it for? That is the mind set I am trying to bring to the table."
These comments sound eerily similar to the comments Andrew Luck made in 2019 when he stunned the NFL world by retiring after an Indianapolis Colts preseason game against the Chicago Bears. Being that Burrow has dealt with several injuries in his career, Bengals fans are worried that this is his way of pondering life after football.
Or maybe, this is Burrow beginning to get his way out of Cincinnati. He threw 43 touchdowns in 2024, and the Bengals missed the postseason. Then he got turf toe in Week 2, the team fell apart without him, and are now 4-9 with the slimmest of playoff hopes to cling to. What if Burrow has had enough with the organization and their inability to build a complete team, as well as the lackluster coaching, and wants out? If that is the case, Les Snead and the Rams should be on line one this offseason.
While Stafford is having a tremendous year, he will be 38 in February, and reportedly contemplated retirement this past offseason. If Burrow makes it known he wants out of Cincinnati, the Rams could swoop in, offer a king's ransom in draft picks, and potentially go from Matthew Stafford to Joe Burrow, not missing a beat and remaining atop the Super Bowl conversation for another half decade.
