Rams playoff picture: Updated chances for Los Angeles to make 2025 NFL postseason after overtime loss in Week 16 image

The Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams played one of the best "Thursday Night Football" games of the year, and needed overtime to determine a winner.

When the dust settled, the Seahawks converted a two-point attempt after a touchdown in OT and earned the win. Seattle could have gone for an extra point and a tie, but that would have had a better chance of hurting them over the last three weeks of the season, so the Seahawks took a risk and it paid off.

With only two regular-season games left on their schedule, the Rams move to 11-4 with the loss. The loss hurts the Rams' seeding projections. Los Angeles luckily already has a playoff berth locked in, but a win would have kept the Rams on top of the NFC with two games to go. Now, the loss to the Seahawks has Seattle in the pole position and the Rams have fallen to the No. 5 seed heading into the weekend.

Here is an updated look at the Rams' updated playoff chances after a Week 16 overtime loss against the Seahawks.

Rams playoff picture

The Rams are already guaranteed a playoff spot. A win on Thursday night would have helped Los Angeles stay in the driver's seat for the one-seed, home-field advantage and the bye week that comes with it. Now, the Rams head into the weekend with the No. 5 seed.

The win also helped Seattle clinch a playoff spot. There is a realm where the Seahawks are the No. 1 seed and the Rams earn the No. 5 seed and beat the eventual NFC South division winner in the Wild Card round to set up a rematch in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. The silver lining for Los Angeles is that with the loss, the Rams at worst head into Week 17 as the No. 6 seed.

NFC West standings

The Seahawks' win helped them clinch a playoff berth. Seattle currently controls its own destiny. If the Seahawks can win out over the last two weeks of the season, Seattle will win the NFC West and clinch the No. 1 seed in the NFC's playoff picture.

The Rams are currently in second place in the NFC West. If the 49ers win in Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night, San Francisco will move into second in the division, dropping the Rams to third.
