Rams linked to reunion with veteran wide receiver amid ridiculous stretch image

It's been some year for the Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford, showing that they might be the best team in the NFL.

After a ridiculous 34-7 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a game in which Stafford completely dominated from start to finish, throwing for 273 yards and three touchdowns, it’s scary to think about the Rams adding contributors throughout the season.

After the New Orleans Saints decided to release wide receiver Brandin Cooks, some believe he could eventually return to the Rams, where he played in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

The latest to suggest that could be the case was Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports, who named them one of five landing spots for the veteran wide receiver.

“Reunion time! Cooks played for Sean McVay's Rams in 2018 and 2019, and more than half a decade later, he could prove a helpful addition for another ring-chasing McVay team. Los Angeles has two tremendous receivers in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, but the returns have been disappointing further down the depth chart.

Tutu Atwell is on IR and Jordan Whittington has 13 catches in 10 games. The Rams lean heavily into formations with three tight ends, but McVay could want more formational flexibility and more reliability from his depth receivers. Cooks could provide that,” he wrote.

The Rams already have an above-average wide receiver room, headlined by Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, but if they could add another receiver like Cooks, it wouldn't be the worst idea.

Even if he isn't someone who gets a lot of action, there are far worse players to keep on the roster in case of an injury towards the back end of the year.

Given his familiarity with Sean McVay, too, it could be something that works out in the long run.
