The Los Angeles Rams are in a position where they don’t have to lock themselves into one specific need with their first-round pick. Remember, they’ll also have two picks due to the trade with the Atlanta Falcons.
Los Angeles could look toward the future at offensive line, but cornerback remains one of the more obvious spots that still needs attention.
Adding a long-term option there would make this team even better moving forward, which is saying something considering how well the Rams have played.
Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut predicted the Rams will do so by selecting Jermod McCoy at No. 11. The Tennessee cornerback hasn’t played since suffering an ACL tear, but the Rams can probably afford to be patient, and the upside is there.
“The Los Angeles Rams are in a luxury spot with this pick. They could address the long-term need at right tackle or take care of a more immediate hole at cornerback. We think the lean is corner, especially for a player of McCoy’s caliber. He missed this season after suffering an ACL tear in January, but he’s the most physically skilled corner in this class,” he wrote.
For Los Angeles, this is about adding another option in the secondary. McCoy wouldn’t have to be rushed into anything, but he’d give the Rams a player to work with at a position that still lacks long-term answers.
If the Rams are comfortable with how the board falls, this is the type of pick that would fit the roster as it stands. They could also look to trade the pick and get further assets.
