Rams' Jimmy Garoppolo gets contract suggestion from NFL writer image

Jimmy Garoppolo has certainly moved out of the spotlight.

The former New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers QB doesn't see the field much these days with the Los Angeles Rams.

That doesn't mean he isn't valuable, though. The Rams prioritized getting a solid backup quarterback behind the aging but still impressive Matthew Stafford.

Stafford has stayed healthy, so Jimmy G has stayed on the sidelines.

But Garoppolo's name will be a bit more relevant when the offseason arrives, because he's set to be a free agent.

NFL.com's Nick Shook writes that the Rams shouldn't consider letting Garoppolo actually reach the open market.

"Matthew Stafford turns 38 in February," Shook writes. "He might win NFL MVP, but he won't find the fountain of youth and already had to overcome nagging back issues just to be able to play in 2025. It's always wise for a Super Bowl contender to supply itself with a veteran backup who possesses extensive big-game experience. Garoppolo is that guy for the Rams and should continue to be that for them beyond this season."

Garoppolo has gotten into just three games in the 2025 NFL season.

All three appearances were to take kneel downs. His entire stats for the season amount to nine carries for negative-10 yards.

Garoppolo got one start in 2024 and lost (although he threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns).

Stafford doesn't appear to be going anywhere, but the Rams should try to keep Garoppolo around, too.
