The Los Angeles Rams are heading into their Week 8 bye tied atop the NFC West with a 5-2 record. Offensively, Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams have been incredible, while Kyren Williams has added strong rushing ability to a top offense.

But, on the defensive side of the ball, there's still room for improvement. Kobie Turner, Byron Young, Poona Ford, Braden Fiske, and Jared Verse make up one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL, but in the secondary, there's room for improvement.

According to NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Rams are searching around the NFL for defensive backfield help. Specifically, the Rams are eyeing a cornerback at the 2025 NFL trade deadline, and they're not alone in their search.

Rams eyeing cornerback trade targets ahead of deadline

"The Ravens, Colts, Lions, and Rams are making calls for a corner," Russini reports.

In the backfield for the Rams are cornerbacks Decobie Durant, Emmanuel Forbes, Darius Williams, Tre Brown, Josh Wallace, and the injured Ahkello Witherspoon.

It's a shallow cornerback room, and it's a clear need for the Rams at the deadline. With a 5-2 record, atop the NFC West, a trade is more than on the table; it's something the Rams are actively looking to make.

Fortunately for the Rams, around the NFL are some interesting cornerbacks to target. Michael Carter II of the New York Jets is likely on the block, as is Roger McCreary of the Tennessee Titans.

Carter and McCreary aren't the only cornerbacks who could be on the move, but those are two names that have been brought up in trade rumors before.

Cornerback is a big issue for the Rams to address, and with this potentially being Stafford's final season in the NFL, and one of the Rams' best chances of winning another Super Bowl, standing pat at the deadline with such a glaring need would be a waste.

They won't be alone in their pursuit of a cornerback, as the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, and potentially others are all vying for cornerback help at the deadline.

McVay has the Rams in great position to make a move, and this report from Russini indicates that the Rams are making an effort to try and acquire a new starting cornerback amid a struggling and shallow cornerback room.
