The Los Angeles Chargers had quite the injury scare with quarterback Justin Herbert in Week 13.
Herbert exited the contest briefly after suffering an injury to his left hand. It was later revealed that Herbert sustained a broken bone in his left hand and needed surgery, which he underwent on Monday.
While that doesn't sound good, there is hope that Herbert can be ready for the Week 14 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
Here's what we know.
Justin Herbert return timeline
Return timeline: Week 14-15
According to Eric Smith of Chargers.com, Herbert is considered day to day with the injury to his non-throwing hand.
"Herbert's return to play is considered day-to-day, and his status for next Monday's game against Philadelphia will be determined later in the week," the Chargers said.
If Herbert doesn't play in Week 14, we would expect him to return in Week 15.
Will Justin Herbert play in Week 14?
We would say Herbert is more likely to play than not, although we don't have confirmation on his status yet.
The reason for optimism is Herbert's day to day designation, which leaves the door open for him to play this week.
Herbert also stated after the Week 13 win that he plans on playing, but that was before the surgery, so things might have changed.
“I’m treating it as if I’m playing on Monday,” Herbert said.
One thing Herbert has going for him is he gets an extra day to recover with the Chargers playing on Monday night, so that helps his cause.
It also helps that Herbert's injury isn't to his throwing hand or else he would definitely miss time.
Herbert will likely only miss one game, at most, but we anticipate him taking the field in Week 14.
We'll get our next update on Herbert on Thursday, when the Chargers drop their first injury report ahead of the game against the Eagles.
