The Los Angeles Chargers are expected to activate running back Omarion Hampton from injured reserve on Monday in order to clear the way for him to return for the Week 14 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

But first, the Chargers need to open up a roster spot for Hampton, as the team has 53 players on its active roster as of Monday morning.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, a roster space will be opened up for Hampton with the Chargers waiving defensive lineman Naquan Jones.

"The Chargers are waiving veteran NT Naquan Jones, per source. Jones had played in eight games this season," Pelissero said. "But with multiple players — including RB Omarrion Hampton — eligible to return from IR, L.A. Is clearing roster space ahead of tonight’s game vs. The Eagles."

Over the weekend, it was reported that the Chargers were going to activate Hampton, who hasn't suited up since Week 5 due to a fractured ankle.

The Chargers haven't officially activated Hampton as of this writing, but that should come no later than a handful of hours before kickoff on Monday night.

It will be interesting to see how much work the Chargers give Hampton in his first game back. We would expect the rookie's workload to be limited after missing so much time.

The Chargers are also fortunate to have another effective back in Kimani Vidal, who has played at a high level in Hampton's absence.

That makes the decision to ease Hampton back in much easier.
