The Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs have played 130 times against each other, dating back to the 1960s in the AFL. Matchup No. 131 comes in Week 1 on Friday night in Brazil.

The Chargers trail in the all-time series, 71-58-1, and will be looking to exercise several demons inside Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo. The Chargers have lost their last seven games against the Chiefs and have not beaten them since September 2021. In addition, head coach Jim Harbaugh lost his first two games against Andy Reid's Chiefs last year.

But what about season-opening games? The Chargers have opened a season against the Chiefs eight times and hold a 2-6 record in those games. Their last win over the Chiefs in a Week 1 game came all the way back in 1976. The Chiefs have won the last five season-opening games against the Chargers, with the most recent meeting coming in 2018. In that game, Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes and Tyreek Hill had 268 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns.

Harbaugh's Chargers played the eventual AFC champions tough last year, losing two fairly low-scoring battles. This will be an interesting matchup to start the year as the Chiefs are still licking their wounds from a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl and will be eager to come out and get off to a fast start.

The Chargers, still led by Justin Herbert, will be looking to flex some new weapons on offense, such as Omarion Hampton and Tre Harris as well as reintroduce everyone to an old weapon in Keenan Allen. But how much of a factor will the loss of left tackle Rashawn Slater play in this game?

Kickoff between the Chargers and Chiefs is set for 5:00 pm Pacific time on Friday. The game can be streamed live on YouTube.
