Khalil Mack has been a steady presence on the Los Angeles Chargers' defensive line ever since he joined the team in 2022. But the Chargers may have to spend some time without him.

In Monday night's matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, Mack exited with what his team called an elbow injury after making a tackle attempt on wide receiver Tre Tucker.

Mack's arm got twisted as he and linebacker Troy Dye converged on Tucker, and the star defender immediately went to the medical tent.

Khalil Mack injury update

With the Raiders and Chargers still early on in their Week 2 meeting, Mack and Dye came in on Tucker to make a tackle at the same time. With Dye on his right side, Mack's left arm appeared to get caught right where his teammate was making the tackle attempt, as Dye leaned right into Mack's elbow and caused it to bend backward.

Mack, facing his former Raiders team, immediately went to the sidelines to enter the medical tent.

Not long prior to the injury, Mack had registered his first sack of the season, also improving to 12.5 sacks against the Raiders since they traded him.

The Chargers officially ruled Mack questionable to return to the game with an elbow injury. Mack was also seen going back to the locker room.

Mack was downgraded to out by the Chargers shortly after. He was seen on the sideline with his left arm in a sling.

While the official extent of his injury remains to be seen, a potential absence for Mack would be a tough blow for Jim Harbaugh's defense. He's totaled 31 sacks in the past three seasons for the Chargers, including 17 in 2023, and Mack earned his ninth Pro Bowl nod last season.

According to Draft Sharks, here's the brief breakdown of Mack's previous NFL injuries:

  • Sept. 2020: Knee Strain, no time missed
  • Sept. 2021: Unspecified left foot injury, missed 10 games
