For the second straight season, the NFL has a game in Brazil to open the season, this time with the Chargers and Chiefs heading to South America for Week 1.
As a result, one team had to sacrifice a division home game, as Los Angeles drew the short end of the stick on that front. So, while the Chiefs will get a true home-field advantage when they host the Chargers later in the year, the Chargers won't get to play the Chiefs in front of their fans.
It's another tough break for domestic fans, who are losing more NFL games to neutral international sites. For Chargers season ticket holders, who will get one less true game than their package entails, they are not going down without a legal fight.
Here's how some Chargers fans are fighting the team over this year's season ticket prices.

Chargers-Chiefs Brazil game lawsuit, explained
A group of Chargers season ticket holders has sued the team for increasing season-ticket prices by 10 percent before moving one home game away from SoFi Stadium.
NEW: LA Chargers sued by season ticket holders for hiking prices by 10% and then moving home opener vs. Chiefs to Brazil without offering refunds for that game. “In essence, Season TicketHolders are paying 10% more than the previous season for one less game,” the lawsuit alleges. pic.twitter.com/LFLi0cU0M3

Devin Abney, a Chargers fan and season-ticket holder, is the plaintiff in the case and claims that the team wouldn't allow him to cancel his season tickets after he found out the Chiefs game was moved.
The lawsuit quotes the Chargers' season ticket policy, which states that any game that is rescheduled away from SoFi Stadium will lead to the ticket holders getting "a refund of the original ticket purchase price." Additionally, the lawsuit notes that other teams, such as the Colts, offer refunds or credits for hosting international games.

The Chargers are alleging that this game was never scheduled for SoFi Stadium in the first place, so the game doesn't need a refund. However, the lawsuit states that the Chargers promoted season-ticket sales while using the Chiefs logo, misleading their fans that this game wouldn't be moved, before quietly removing the Chiefs logo from the team's advertising.
Los Angeles first opened season ticket renewals in October of 2024, well before it was announced that the Chargers-Chiefs game would be moved.
"There was thus no way," the complaint says, via Pro Football Talk, "for Season Ticket Holders, who reasonably believed based on the previous advertising that the Kansas City Chiefs game would be included, to cancel without forfeiting thousands of dollars in payment."
