The Las Vegas Raiders added another veteran quarterback Monday, signing Jeff Driskel to the practice squad just a week after trading for Kenny Pickett from the Cleveland Browns.
"Raiders signing veteran quarterback Jeff Driskel to practice squad, per a league source. Driskel, 32, has 16 career touchdown passes and three touchdown runs as dual threat," Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported on X.
The addition of Driskel to the practice squad has left some doubt on whether rookie Cam Miller will be with the Raiders for much longer. The NDSU product had a promising preseason, but failed to earn a roster spot and is currently on the practice squad.
Though Miller's status with the team seemed uncertain due to the signing of Driskel, Vincent Bonsignore of The Las Vegas Review-Journal confirmed that the talented rookie isn't going anywhere.
"FYI: The Raiders addition of veteran QB Jeff Driskel to their practice squad does not affect rookie QB Cam Miller. He'll remain on the practice squad as well," Bonsignore said on X.
Bonsignore added that Las Vegas will have to open up a spot on the practice squad for Driskel.
"They [The Raiders] will have to clear a spot for him [Driskel]. No announcement yet. The Raiders practice this afternoon so I'm sure we'll get an update," Bonsignore added on X.
It's great to hear that the Raiders plan to keep Miller. The 2025 sixth-round pick has potential as a dual-threat signal-caller, and it's too early to give up on him.
With Pickett locked in as the No.2 quarterback, Miller is unlikely to see any action in a regular-season game this year, barring multiple injuries. However, the 24-year-old could have a future in Las Vegas if he continues to improve and impress with the snaps he's given.
