A Las Vegas Raiders beat writer believes there's a chance the team could be in the market for a trade at cornerback and wide receiver.
The suggestion comes from On SI's Hondo Carpenter, who said so during an episode of the "Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast."
“I can tell you I would not be shocked with a Raiders trade at wide receiver or corner right now... I would not be surprised,” he said with a wink. “I don’t think anything is imminent, so don’t take the wink as imminent, but if they are able to make a deal, remember I told you that first.”
It's logical to think the Raiders could be exploring their options at both positions.
At wide receiver, Jakobi Meyers is currently slated to be the No. 1. Tre Tucker and rookies Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton are all vying for the No. 2 role, but Bech and Thornton are unproven and Tucker is best suited as a No. 3.
Of course, having a budding superstar tight end in Brock Bowers might leave the Raiders more comfortable with their wide receiver situation than they otherwise would be, but it's not crazy to think Las Vegas could add another veteran.
Cornerback is probably a bigger concern at the moment.
Kyu Blu Kelly's late entrance into the starting competition suggests the Raiders still haven't hammered down who is going to start, which is a troubling sign they aren't too happy with their options.
Along with Kelly, the Raiders have two unproven players in rookie Darien Porter and second-year player Decamerion Richardson and disappointing former first-round pick Eric Stokes vying for the role.
In preseason Week 2, none of the trio of Kelly, Stokes and Porter played well, with Kelly and Porter giving up a pair of receptions for 22 and 31 yards, respectively, and Stokes surrendering three catches for 41 yards. Richardson wasn't targeted.
While there remains a chance we see the Raiders swing a move at one or both positions, we wouldn't expect the team to make any kind of earth-shattering acquisition. If the Raiders do add an upgrade, it'll be a minimal one.
