The Las Vegas Raiders are in the driver's seat for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Thanks to their loss Sunday to the Giants, all the Raiders need is one more loss to secure it for sure.

If they do indeed get that spot, the Raiders will be hoping it goes better than the last time.

They will likely target a QB in the 2026 draft with the top pick or a pick near the top. Indiana's Fernando Mendoza and Oregon's Dante Moore seem to be in the picture.

That is, if the Raiders can avoid repeating history.

When's the last time the Raiders had the No. 1 pick?

The last time the Raiders picked first in the draft was 2007.

That year, they picked quarterback JaMarcus Russell out of LSU. He was an immense bust.

They had only picked once before that in the No. 1 slot. That was 1977, when they selected QB Roman Gabriel, who made four Pro Bowls in the NFL.

Vegas almost certainly will go quarterback at the top spot this year if that's where they wind up. Geno Smith has not been the answer at the most important position in sports.

The Raiders just need to pick the right guy. It's critical to the future of the franchise.
