The Geno Smith era for the Las Vegas Raiders got off to a great start in Week 1, as he led the team to a 20-13 win over the New England Patriots, which set up a Week 2 home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers nicely.
However, it appears that the football script writers have a dark sense of humor.
With the Raiders taking the field first on offense, it was Geno's home debut at Allegiant Stadium, and no doubt he would have wanted to get off to a great start...but he didn't.
Dropping back to pass on the game's first play, Smith rifled a pass towards receiver Tre Tucker, but after a bobble, it was intercepted by Daiyan Henley to get Geno's game off to the worst possible start.

Geno Smith giving Raiders different vibe with Pete Carroll
Having been seen as the AFC West cellar dwellers for years, the Raiders, with new head coach Pete Carroll and Geno, appear to have given this franchise a whole different feel.
That was only reinforced after the 20-13 win in Week 1, that saw Smith throw for 362 yards en route to getting the new season off to the best of starts.
Which is what makes Geno's interception on the first play of the game against the Chargers just yuck all-around.
The Raiders had a chance to put the pressure on a fellow AFC rival with Raiders Nation in full voice, but it quickly went quiet as the Chargers ended up settling for three points.
Thanks to Smith's interception.
