The Las Vegas Raiders have no shortage of competition for the services of Denver Broncos passing-game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Davis Webb.
Webb, who is a rising star in NFL circles, has received a lot of interest on the head-coach market this offseason, but it would appear the Raiders are the last team standings in terms of his options on that front.
And the Raiders appear to be a very legit option, as Webb is one of four candidates the Raiders have brought in for a second interview, and two of those candidates have since landed other jobs.
But there are other forms of competition for Webb, and one of them includes his current team, the Broncos, who now have a vacancy at the offensive coordinator position after firing Joe Lombardi on Tuesday.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it looks like the Broncos will offer that job to Webb.
"They need to run a process so based on NFL rules they can’t just say ‘Okay, Davis Webb it is your job,'" Rapoport said.
“What they can do is incentivize him to stay and then potentially end up giving him the job," Rapoport added. "The fact that he is in the building right now for a rival interviewing for a head coaching opportunity and a strong candidate.
"These things are all related. We’ll see where it shakes out for the Las Vegas Raiders and for the Broncos, but things do not happen in a vacuum. Certainly, they are all related," Rapoport concluded.
But the Broncos aren't the only team interested in Webb for their offensive coordinator vacancy.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens all have interest in the 30-year-old coach.
"After Broncos passing game coordinator and QB coach Davis Webb interviewed this week for the Raiders and Bills head coaching jobs, he received interview requests for offensive coordinator jobs with the Eagles, Giants, and Ravens," Schefter reported.
While the Broncos might be able to offer Webb the offensive coordinator job, they can't offer him an opportunity to call plays because that job belongs to Broncos head coach Sean Payton.
Perhaps the Broncos would give Webb play-calling duties if that helps retain him, but we don't see Payton giving up that responsibility.
The Eagles, Ravens and Giants can all offer that opportunity for Webb, so those three teams might be more appealing to him than the Broncos.
The Raiders stand out above all four of those teams because they can offer Webb a head-coaching gig and an opportunity to call plays. It's also possible Webb could get an offensive coordinator opportunity with the Raiders don't hire him as head coach.
Assuming Las Vegas is seriously considering hiring Webb, we would say they have the edge over the other four teams because of all they can offer him.
