The Kansas City Chiefs have been plagued by injuries as they play out the string this season, and one of the players banged-up is wide receiver Rashee Rice.
Rice suffered a concussion in the season-ending loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15 and was unable to suit up in Week 16 after not practicing at all.
The Chiefs wide receiver is now off to a bad start in Week 17, and making matters worse it's a short week, so he has less time to get right than normal.
Here's what we know about his chances of returning to the field for the Christmas Day game against the Denver Broncos.
Will Rashee Rice return in Week 17?
We don't have a definitive answer yet, but Rice is trending in the wrong direction going into Tuesday, as he remains in the concussion protocol.
According to the Chiefs' official but estimated injury report on Monday, Rice didn't take part in practice, which shows a lack of progress in the concussion protocol to start the week.
Rice will have to turn in a full practice and then get cleared by an independent neurologist before being able to take the field. If he doesn't make any progress Tuesday, there's a good chance he'll sit out in Week 17.
If Rice does play, he'll be returning to an extremely shaky quarterback situation.
Not only is Patrick Mahomes out for the season with a torn ACL, but Gardner Minshew is now sidelined for the last two games after sustaining his own knee injury in Week 16.
That means Kansas City will be forced to roll with either Chris Oladokun or Shane Buechele, the latter of whom was signed off the Buffalo Bills' practice squad.
Whoever starts is going to seriously limit all Chiefs pass-catchers.
