The Kansas City Chiefs are now on their third quarterback after Gardner Minshew went down with a knee injury in the team's Week 16 game versus the Tennessee Titans.
With Patrick Mahomes out with a torn ACL and Minshew questionable to return, Kansas City has now turned to Chris Oladokun to command the offense.
Let's get to know the Chiefs quarterback who is replacing Minshew in Sunday's contest versus the Titans.
Who is Chris Oladokun?
Oladokun had a lengthy college career, playing seven seasons at three different universities: South Florida, Samford, and South Dakota State.
The 28-year-old didn't receive much playing time till his final college season in 2021, where he started for South Dakota State and led the Jackrabbits to an 11-4 record while tossing 25 touchdowns to seven interceptions.
After a successful 2021 campaign at South Dakota State, Oladokun was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. After being released during final cuts, Oladokun signed to the Chiefs' practice squad.
Oladokun has spent his entire career in Kansas City, winning two Super Bowls. He's spent most of his time on the practice squad, but made his NFL debut in 2024 versus the Denver Broncos, tallying five rushing yards, but never completing a pass.
With Mahomes out for the year, Oladokun was elevated to be Minshew's backup in Week 16 of the 2025 season. However, the veteran will now serve as the Chiefs' starter with Minshew's status uncertain. We'll see how Oladokun will perform in his first taste of real NFL action.
