The Kansas City Chiefs did it the hard way against the Indianapolis Colts, but they found a way to win 23-20 in overtime at Arrowhead Stadium, and Patrick Mahomes was a big reason why.

His 352 passing yards helped propel the offense on Sunday, but it was what he did in crunch time that proved No. 15 still has "it."

Mahomes orchestrated a 21-play, 90-yard drive that ended with the game-tying field goal, and then in overtime, after the defense got a stop, Patrick was at it again, going 2 of 3 for 52 yards in a 14-play, 81-yard drive that set up Harrison Butker to win the game.

As such, for CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin, Mahomes was the big winner on Sunday.

"Down 11 points in the fourth quarter against the Colts, Mahomes looked truly in danger of falling below.500 in front of the Arrowhead Stadium crowd," Benjamin wrote. "But he put his body on the line as a scrambler, then later floated a perfect pass to Xavier Worthy, to set up a walk-off overtime field goal.

"The Chiefs may still need lots of work as an offense, but No. 15 finally rediscovered some of his trademark late-game flair to get back in the win column."

Doubt the Chiefs as your peril as playoffs loom

Even at 6-5, the Chiefs are still a decent way back in the playoff hunt.

The Buffalo Bills, at 7-4, occupy the seventh seed and have the tie-breaker over the Chiefs, having already beaten them this season, so essentially two games behind Buffalo as things stand.

Not having much, if any, margin for error, the Chiefs, to be assured of a playoff spot (we think) would have to nearly win out, maybe one loss could be dealt with, but going undefeated from here on out would be the perfect tonic.

And when Mahomes is in this sort of mood, the Chiefs are a scary team... Especially in the postseason.
