How Patrick Mahomes' injury handed Chiefs brutal 'wake-up call' image

The Kansas City Chiefs have been hit hard by injuries, most notably to Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a torn ACL in the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

But then the Tennessee Titans game came around, and the Chiefs' offense didn't look good with Gardner Minshew and then Chris Oladokun taking over. They scored just nine points, while allowing 26 from a Titans offense that most state isn't that good.

CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan thinks that with Mahomes out with injury, it has shed light on all that No. 15 was doing to cover up the team's warts.

And he states that these final two games should be a wake-up call to the front office to get No. 15 more help.

"These final two weeks should be a wake-up call to the front office that, as generational as Mahomes is, he needs at least some talent at his disposal to get them back to the mountaintop," Sullivan wrote.

Chiefs have plethora of issues

There are several positions that need addressing, particularly on offense.

The running back spot is a big one, and so is the offensive line. Yes, it was ravaged by injuries, but even when healthy, it wasn't good at protecting Mahomes.

The receiver room might need a little overhaul, and depending on what Travis Kelce does, the tight end room, too.

So that is a lot to try and fix, but the Chiefs have generally done a good job of plugging holes in their roster.

But without Mahomes, they have to fix them, not just tape up the issue.
