Chiefs urged to remove $20 million headache this offseason image

The Kansas City Chiefs are going to have some interesting personnel decisions to make this offseason.

Travis Kelce looms as the big domino to fall, but others could also see their futures elsewhere in 2026.

But who? With the Chiefs expected to do some serious wheeling and dealing with their roster in an attempt to get back into the playoff hunt next season, some tough decisions might have to be made.

And for ESPN's Aaron Schatz, one move he predicts could happen is the Chiefs cutting right tackle Jawaan Taylor.

"The Chiefs will cut Taylor, which would save them $20 million on the cap even if Taylor is cut before the June 1 mark," Schatz wrote. "He was in the top 10 of pass block win rate for tackles through Week 17 this season, but the Chiefs can't live with his expensive contract or his predilection for earning penalties."

Offensive line might be key emphasis

Given that Mahomes was sacked 34 times in 14 games, just two shy of his career high, if Taylor is indeed cut, the Chiefs might look to fortify the offensive line this offseason.

Granted, finding another receiver, Kelce's replacement, and plugging several holes in the defense could take precedence, but No. 15 is Kansas City's most prized asset.

So, maybe offensive line has jumped to the top of the to-do list for general manager Brett Veach and Andy Reid because if you can't protect Patrick, the Chiefs won't be going anywhere in 2026.
