Patrick Mahomes has already inserted his name among the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
And this week, the Kansas City Chiefs' QB can claim a couple of records for himself when he takes the field Friday for a Week 1 clash with the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
There are two key numbers in play, with the stats broken down by Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith:
- 291 career touchdown passes, combining regular season and postseason
- 245 career touchdown passes in just the regular season

The 291 TDs in all games are nearly the most a player has thrown in his first nine seasons (and Mahomes is just beginning his ninth season).
The previous record in that category is 293, held by Peyton Manning.
So if Mahomes throws three touchdowns in Brazil, he'll hold the record for most TD passes across the regular season and postseason in a player's first nine seasons while setting the mark in just game one of his ninth campaign.
The 245 regular season touchdowns are chasing the mark for most thrown by a player before turning 30.
Mahomes is actually tied for first place on that list with Dan Marino.
The 30th birthday for Mahomes comes on Sept. 17, after the Chiefs' first two games. So to set this mark, Mahomes just needs one touchdown pass total over the season's first two weeks.

It seems safe to expect Mahomes to break both of these records and claim the top spots for himself.
The only question is whether it happens in Brazil.
The Chargers are a sturdy divisional test to open the season, and Mahomes is without top receiver Rashee Rice due to suspension.
But would anyone bet against Mahomes stealing the show in Sao Paulo? He'll likely throw at least a couple touchdowns, and maybe more.
