The Kansas City Chiefs opened the season in Brazil on Friday night against division rival Los Angeles Chargers. By the numbers, all signs pointed to the Chiefs, as they had beaten the Chargers in seven consecutive matchups.
“Since Patrick Mahomes became a starter in 2018, the Kansas City Chiefs have beaten up on much of the NFL, and perhaps no team understands what that dominance has felt like more than the Chargers. The Chargers went into Friday night's game at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo on a seven-game losing streak to Kansas City and are 3-19 in their past 22 games against the Chiefs,” ESPN’s Kris Rhim and Nate Taylor wrote.
That streak came to an end on Friday night, as the Chiefs fell to the Chargers, dropping to 0-1 on the young season. However, the bigger concern for Kansas City came when rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy went down with a shoulder injury. The team won't know the full extent of the injury until they return to Kansas City.
“Chiefs coach Andy Reid told media post-game that they will know more about Worthy's status when they return home from Brazil tomorrow. Once in Kansas City, Worthy will have an MRI on his shoulder and the team will go from there,” USA Today’s Ayrton Ostly reported.
If Worthy’s injury turns out to be serious and he’s forced to miss time, the Chiefs may already have a temporary solution — someone who was actually in attendance at the game: Odell Beckham Jr.
“A look at the injury to Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy due to friendly fire contact with TE Travis Kelce. If the injury is significant, and they need to turn to a free agent WR, OBJ is in attendance,” NFL Insider Josina Anderson posted.

Beckham is looking for an opportunity, and there may be no better one than playing alongside one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The veteran wide receiver, once known for his spectacular catches, could potentially make an immediate impact. While everything hinges on Worthy’s diagnosis, Beckham would be a strong pickup for the Chiefs.
