The Kansas City Chiefs played their first game out of the playoff race since 2013. After making the postseason every season since 2014, the Chiefs were eliminated from postseason contention after losing to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15. On top of that, and more importantly, the Chiefs also lost quarterback Patrick Mahomes for the season to a torn ACL.
Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew got the start in the Chiefs' Week 16 loss to the Tennessee Titans, but left with a knee injury of his own. Per Matt Derick of Chiefs Digest, Kansas City fears they also lost Minshew to a torn ACL.
"Chiefs QB Gardner Minshew likely suffered a torn ACL in his left knee against the Titans today, sources tell Chiefs Digest," Derrick posts on X. "He will undergo an MRI to confirm. Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew suffering torn left ACLs in back-to-back games is crazy bad luck."
This means it will be third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun will be the quarterback for the team's final two games of the 2025 season. Oladokun was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of South Dakota State.
