Chiefs' draft spot opens door for Kansas City to make electric first-round pick image

The Kansas City Chiefs need to add more juice to their offense, and especially at running back.

The duo of Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt has been good but not great over the last few years, and the 2025 season was particularly tough for both, as neither veteran back averaged four yards per carry.

Now that both are slated to be free agents in 2026, it's time to make a change and bring in a true difference-maker at the position.

The Chiefs land in the No. 9 spot in the 2026 NFL draft following their loss in the season finale against the Las Vegas Raiders and that puts them in position to draft arguably the most electric playmaker in this year's class.

That is none other than Notre Dame superstar running back Jeremiyah Love, who is unanimously considered the best at his position in 2026.

Love would be exactly what the doctor ordered for Kansas City.

He's an explosive yet powerful runner who can make house calls from anywhere on the field, and Love has top-notch receiving skills, and so much so he can line up in the slot.

Love is the kind of player who can take games over on the ground, and he can take a ton of pressure and attention off Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' passing attack, so adding him is more than just a boost to the rushing attack.

Drafting running backs this early has become taboo in recent years, but Love is a next-level prospect who, at the very least, deserves consideration in the top 10.

If Love is there when the Chiefs are on the clock, they'd be hard-pressed to pass on him.
