The Kansas City Chiefs' season was plagued by inconsistencies we haven't seen in years.

Yes, the offense stuttered and spluttered, but the defense, which the Chiefs had routinely counted on in big spots, and often came through, didn't.

Now armed with a top draft pick for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, where the franchise should go with that pick is a fascinating conversation.

But for ESPN's Nate Taylor, the Chiefs' biggest need this offseason is an easy one to pick.

"Improve the pass rush," Taylor wrote. "The Chiefs must find an above-average pass rusher to put alongside Chris Jones and George Karlaftis. In past years, they have prioritized improving the offensive line. This year, that focus should shift to Steve Spagnuolo's unit either through free agency or with their first-round pick."

Chiefs' pass rush below league average in 2025

Given the weapons along the defensive line, the lack of a pass rush, and the ability to even pressure the quarterback was worryingly lacking.

The Chiefs managed just 35 sacks in 2025, ranking 23rd in the league.

That is nowhere near good enough.

Chris Jones led the Chiefs in sacks with just seven, with George Karlaftis second with six, but after that? The next best was Charles Omenihu with just 3.5 sacks.

With a top pick in their pocket, Kansas City needs to address its defense, and pass rusher feels as good a spot as any to bolster.
