The Jacksonville Jaguars weren’t expected to make many roster-shaking moves this late in the offseason, but they just pulled off one that turned heads across the league. According to reports, Jacksonville has acquired wide receiver Tim Patrick from the Detroit Lions in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick.
While it’s not the type of blockbuster deal that dominates headlines, the timing and fit make this trade worth paying attention to. Patrick has battled injuries in recent years but brings veteran savvy and a physical presence that could help elevate a Jaguars offense loaded with young talent but still searching for consistency.
Patrick joins a young Jaguars wideout room
The Jaguars’ receiving corps is brimming with potential but light on experience. Second-year standout Brian Thomas Jr. is expected to take a major leap, rookie Travis Hunter has been one of the most talked-about playmakers in camp, and Dyami Brown is looking to prove himself after signing a one-year deal. Adding Patrick to that mix gives Jacksonville something it was missing: a reliable veteran who knows how to work in tough coverage and move the chains.

Patrick re-signed with Detroit earlier this year after recording 33 catches for 394 yards and three touchdowns in 2024. That season was especially significant because it marked his first action since missing two full years with knee and Achilles injuries while a member of the Denver Broncos.
Career snapshot and what Jaguars gain
Now 31, Patrick has put together a solid resume when healthy. He’s caught 176 passes for 2,403 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career. During his Denver years, he built a reputation as a steady target, particularly in third-down and red-zone situations.
For Jacksonville, the trade is less about big numbers and more about balance. Trevor Lawrence already has young, explosive targets, but Patrick’s size and reliability could be the piece that stabilizes the passing attack. If he stays healthy, he might turn out to be one of the quietest but smartest pickups of the offseason.
Jacksonville opens the season on Sept. 7 at home against the Carolina Panthers.
