Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence reveal offense's new secret weapon under Liam Coen image

The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering an exciting new season, for multiple reasons.

There's plenty of reason to be pumped about new head coach Liam Coen, a great offensive mind. And then they traded up to draft Travis Hunter at No. 2 overall, getting the dynamic two-way player to attempt something not done in the NFL for a long, long time.

Their offense also has a new weapon, one that isn't a secret any longer after Coen spoke about it this week.

The Jags might lean into the "tush push," that quarterback sneak variety popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles.

"I do believe in quarterback sneaks, and we do have a push variation," Coen told reporters. "So, obviously, the rule is what it is. So, you do need to probably take advantage of it at times. We do have a bigger quarterback that can get a couple yards — you hope for a yard or two... we do have it, especially if you need it... Maybe it's backed up, you're on the one-yard line or one-inch line, and you need to go out and get it there. We'll look at it."

The Jaguars were one of the 10 teams that voted against the tush push ban this offseason, which helped it to remain a legal play.

Lawrence, at 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds, certainly has some of the physique and athleticism to make a QB sneak work.

It's a big season for him, too. He's coming off an injury-shortened 10-game season in which the Jags went 2-8 when he started.

The 2021 No. 1 overall pick out of Clemson so far has only a 22-38 record as the Jags' starting quarterback. He has a 63.3% completion percentage for his career, with 69 touchdowns and 46 interceptions.

Any new offensive elements that help the Jaguars keep the ball moving are good additions. And if Lawrence can help the Jags pick up gains in short-yardage situations, all the better.
