The Jacksonville Jaguars have a sneakily huge opportunity on their hands.

Beginning with Week 16 against the AFC's current No. 1 seed, the Denver Broncos, these Jags can make it to the top spot in the conference and the bye that comes with it, if results in the final three weeks of the regular season go their way.

The Jaguars are 10-4 entering Week 16, which is good for the AFC South Division lead and the No. 3 seed. That would come with a first-round home game against the conference's second of three wild card teams.

Jacksonville can aim bigger, though.

How Jaguars can get AFC's 1-seed

The Jaguars have a very specific path to the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

ESPN's Adam Schefter explained it on Sunday morning. These are the steps:

  • Jaguars win their final three games (Broncos, Colts, Titans)
  • Broncos lose either Week 17 (at Chiefs) or Week 18 (Chargers)
  • Patriots lose 1 of their final 3 games

The Jags weren't expected to be anywhere near this position when they began the season.

At this point, that Broncos game seems to be by far the most difficult one.

The Jaguars would need a lot of help, too.

But to have any chance of this at all is a big deal for the Jaguars. It shows how much they've improved this season.
