The Jacksonville Jaguars are ushering in a new era with Liam Coen as the head coach. Trevor Lawrence is still at quarterback, and the Jaguars have some talented offensive players in the mix, including Brian Thomas Jr., who burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2024.
Another one is running back Travis Etienne Jr., the former Clemson star who was selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Recently, Etienne was mentioned as a trade candidate by Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.
However, Coen strongly debunked those talks with a firm statement during his recent press conference.
“He’s done a great job. I don’t really understand some of the stuff I’ve kind of seen out there. That’s absolutely inaccurate.”
Etienne had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023 but had just 558 yards rushing and two scores in 2024, which was a bit of a concern.
Etienne missed his entire rookie year after suffering a Lisfranc injury during a preseason game, but he is still a valuable piece who can run the football and catch passes in various ways.
The other running back who earned lots of playing time in 2024 was Tank Bigsby, so it could be a two-man show in Jacksonville between them. Bigsby led the team in rushing with 766 yards and seven scores, but a new regime could change things up at the RB position.
So, for now, it doesn't appear that Coen even wants to discuss an Etienne trade in any way.
