Jaguars' Liam Coen brushes off Robert Saleh's 'sign-stealing' claims image

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen kept his focus on football and brushed off comments from San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who claimed that the Jaguars have a "really advanced" sign-stealing system on offense.

During his media availability on Thursday ahead of Sunday's game with the Jaguars, Saleh discussed Jacksonville's offensive staff's ability to gain advantages through signals and formations.

"Liam and his staff, couple guys coming from Minnesota, they've got a -- legally -- a really advanced signal-stealing type system where they always find a way to put themselves in an advantageous situation," Saleh said. "They do a great job of it."

Liam Coen sidesteps Robert Saleh's sign-stealing remarks

On Friday, when reporters asked about Saleh's remarks, Coen declined to engage fully on the topic.

"Yeah, I'm not going to speak on that fully right now," Coen said, via Jaguars reporter Mia O'Brien. "We have a huge game for us coming up this weekend. Got a great defense that we’ve got to go and attack. And that’s where our whole mindset and mentality is right now."

Pressed further on whether he was surprised Saleh brought up the topic, Coen reiterated the team's focus on football.

He said the Jaguars are concentrating on attacking a strong defense while improving their own offense, aiming to execute consistently over all four quarters and generate explosive plays through the passing game.

Coen added that analyzing opponents' signals and formation cues is fundamental to coaching.

"By formation, by game plan, by working really hard as a coaching staff throughout the week, trying to get indicators by your formation, motion, shift, pre-snap those are the things that you’re trying to do as a coach," he said.

The Jaguars (2-1) will visit the 49ers (3-0) on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
