The Indianapolis Colts could need to call on Riley Leonard.
The sixth-round rookie QB out of Notre Dame is the Colts' backup quarterback on Sunday in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals. It's his first time as QB2 on gameday.
Anthony Richardson was demoted to the QB3 role, inactive except in case of need for an emergency quarterback.
It's a vote of confidence in Leonard, to be sure, but there's another reason at play.

Why is Riley Leonard the Colts' backup QB?
Leonard is in as QB2 due in part to injury to Richardson.
According to multiple reports, Richardson hurt his eye in warmups while warming up with stretching bands.
If not for laughing at someone's pain, that would be kind of amusing.
It could create an odd situation. What happens if Daniel Jones gets hurt and Leonard comes in and plays well? Does he leapfrog Richardson for the backup job?
There's still plenty to be determined here, including the possible severity of Richardson's eye injury.
The Colts will surely just hope Jones stays healthy. He's been so good, and they can dream big as long as he's playing well.
But if something happens to Jones, at least on this Sunday, it'll be Leonard coming into the game, not Richardson.
