Daniel Jones injury updates are very concerning for Colts' playoff push image

It wasn't long ago that the Indianapolis Colts looked like they'd cruise to the playoffs.

Indy jumped out to a 7-1 record in the first half of the 2025 season and, at the very least, looked like a lock to wrap up one of the wild-card spots.

Fast forward to Week 14 and there are several concerns for the Colts.

Indy has dropped three of four games since its 7-1 start and now the Jacksonville Jaguars are in first place in the AFC South and the Houston Texans are breathing down Indy's neck for second second in the division and for a wild-card spot. Indianapolis is currently sitting in sixth in the AFC playoff picture.

The most concerning thing for the Colts' playoff hopes right now is quarterback Daniel Jones, who is dealing with a fracture in his fibula that will impact him the remainder of the season.

Daniel Jones injury updates

The Athletic's Dianna Russini notes that Jones' issue isn't "severe pain, but rather the stability of the quarterback's leg, meaning that in a sport that emphasizes 'get off' speed, it's been harder for him to fully push off."

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler adds that Jones is "clearly not 100 percent" and coaches he has spoken to think his mobility has been impacted by the injury.

This is all obviously very concerning, as the Colts need Jones at his best the rest of the way if they're going to stave-off a collapse that leads to them missing the postseason.

But with Jones' mobility and throwing impacted by the fibula injury, it's hard to say we'll see the best out of him down the stretch.

Furthermore, the lack of mobility takes away a key part of Jones' game while also making it harder for him to protect himself, which only increases the chances he takes a hit and makes the injury worse.

The Colts are a perfect example of why you can never get too high for any team in the NFL. A lot can change in just a few weeks and we're seeing that first hand with a Colts team whose season is riding on the fibula of its quarterback.
