The Indianapolis Colts turned over every stone they could think of to find a healthy quarterback.
When Daniel Jones went down with a season-ending torn Achilles injury, and then rookie Riley Leonard got dinged up, too, the QB position was left looking pretty barren.
They've landed on 44-year old Philip Rivers to join a depth chart that also includes Leonard and Brett Rypien.

They wanted another player, too.
Sam Ehlinger is on the Broncos' practice squad, and he used to play for the Colts. Indy reached out to him.
Ehlinger declined to be signed, though.
The Denver Post's Parker Gabriel reported the news like this:
"The Colts called Sam Ehlinger's agent, Erik Burkhardt, Sunday night with an offer to return to Indianapolis. Ehlinger told @denverpost the sides talked for two days before he decided to stick with the #Broncos on the p-squad."

It sounds like the Colts wanted to bring in both Ehlinger and Rivers. That may not have appealed to Ehlinger if he felt he wouldn't actually get a chance to start.
It sounds like Ehlinger is enjoying his time in Denver learning under Sean Payton.
The former Texas star isn't likely to turn himself into a long-term starter at this point in his career. He may have just wanted some comfort and stability rather than a chaotic late-season move.
