Colts' QB depth chart looms with Daniel Jones injury news raising Anthony Richardson, Riley Leonard question image

This isn't a great week for the injury news that just came from the Indianapolis Colts.

They announced Thursday that Daniel Jones was added to the injury report with a calf injury, denoting him as a limited participant in practice. It's a concern because Jones wasn't on the report at all Wednesday, suggesting he may have been injured on Thursday.

And on Indy's schedule for Sunday: the Kansas City Chiefs.

This is the ultimate prove-it game for the Colts and their revitalized QB, Jones. They wouldn't want to do it without him.

Jones' Friday practice report will loom extra large. If he's limited or better, that's a good sign. But if there's a DNP on Friday, then Sunday's game will feel very different.

Colts' QB depth chart

The Colts' quarterback depth chart is depleted.

At the beginning of the year, Jones was No. 1 and Anthony Richardson was No. 2. But Richardson is on IR with an eye injury.

Jones' backup is now sixth-round rookie Riley Leonard out of Notre Dame.

If Jones sat, Leonard would start and practice squad QB Brett Rypien would be elevated to back him up.

It's not quite the same as Jones starting, that's for sure. Leonard has only gotten garbage-time snaps so far in his NFL career, although he knows big games: He quarterbacked Notre Dame to the national championship game in his final college season after transferring from Duke.
