Anthony Richardson trade rumor gives definitive answer on Colts quarterback's future image

Once the Indianapolis Colts went on to name Daniel Jones the starter over Anthony Richardson out of the offseason, trade speculation surrounding the latter began heating up immediately.

However, we have not seen any concrete rumors that suggest the Colts will make that kind of move, even though it seems like Richardson is even more expendable following Indy's impressive and unexpected 1-3 start.

And it doesn't look like that's changing as we enter Week 5 of the 2025 campaign.

According to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, Richardson is not expected to be traded at the deadline next month. He takes it a step further, saying that Richardson is even less likely to be traded than Kirk Cousins and Russell Wilson.

"The least likely out of the three to be traded in the next month is Richardson," he reported. "Sources immediately shot down the potential of a trade out of Indianapolis in the next few weeks.

Jones added that neither Richardson nor Cousins nor Wilson have garnered any trade interest from teams around the NFL at this point. Not entirely surprising considering there's still a month before the deadline.

That's important to note because things could change in Indianapolis if a team actually does come calling with a good offer for the 23-year-old.

That said, it is understandable why the Colts would want to hang on to Richardson for now.

Jones has played phenomenal through four games, but he also has a lengthy injury history and trading Richardson would leave Indy with a rookie backup in Riley Leonard. That's not a situation a winning team can leave itself in.

Now, if things go south by the deadline, trading Richardson becomes more likely, although such a scenario would also likely mean Jones is struggling, in which case the Colts might want to get one last look at the former No. 4 overall pick before having to decide what to do with him next year.
