The Houston Texans have won three games in a row without C.J. Stroud.
Backup QB Davis Mills led the Texans past the Buffalo Bills last Thursday to push Houston to 6-5 and back into the AFC playoff picture.
Stroud has been out with a concussion, so Mills has kept playing.
But on Monday, head coach DeMeco Ryans gave an update on Stroud.
The key point: There is no QB controversy here. When Stroud is back, he'll start.
“Whenever C.J. Is back and ready to roll, he’s been our starter,” Ryans told reporters. “He will be our starter whenever he’s back and ready to go.”
Stroud was back at practice in the lead up to Thursday Night Football, but evidently he wasn't fully healed and through protocol to actually get to start.
The long break after a Thursday night game all the way to Sunday of the following week gives Stroud a great chance to return.
The Texans are about to play a crucial game against the 8-3 Indianapolis Colts.
“In my current situation I don’t think there is a competition,” Davis Mills told reporters. “C.J. Is the starter for this team. I’m just doing everything I can to bring my best foot forward every day, make everyone else around me better and try to provide and play my role to my best ability when I get thrown in there."
The Texans and Colts kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday (12 noon CT).
